The North Road Business Improvement Association already agreed to pay 10% of the funding and the city of Coquitlam agreed to fund 20%. Burnaby will provide the remaining 20% through its casino revenues. The six-month pilot project, which will cost a total of $64,600, focuses on auto-related crime. The program’s effectiveness will be reviewed at the end of six months to determine funding will continue to be provided. Four individuals will run bicycle patrols for 40 hours each week and the security company intends to hire similar patrols for the downtown Vancouver area for a span of three years.
