ICPB scores against car theft

Following extensive investigations, police in Quebec swooped in on a vehicle theft ring based in Victoriaville in July, seizing 56 cars valued at approximately $1.6 million. The Insurance Crime Prevention Bureau (ICPB) congratulated the authorities on the successful raid, noting that this is the second occasion vehicles have been seized on premises owned by Laurent Laroche and Marco Lecours. Last year a raid on a company Automobiles l’an 2000 Inc. resulted in 15 vehicles seized. The company in question is alleged to have been “rebuilding” a vehicle every two days, accounting for nearly 10% of all “rebuilt cars” in the Maurice-Central Quebec region. Terri MacLean, CEO of the ICPB notes, “car theft is a social problem that every year costs Canadians about $1 billion…Car theft adds about $48 a year to the cost of car insurance.”
