Rugby players around the world are rallying to raise funds for the 21-year-old paralyzed Canadian player, Sean Corner, reports the Hamilton Spectator.Corner studied insurance at Mohawk College in Hamilton and started work at Economical Insurance in May, when he was injured during a rugby match in September that left him paralyzed from the waist down. The game might not have been played had team officials known the Ontario Rugby Union’s catastrophic injury insurance had been cancelled just prior to the game.Welsh players swapped jerseys with the Canadian team after defeating them before 74,000 fans at a Cardiff match, according to the Spectator. The jerseys were auctioned off on eBay, some of which fetched over $600 a piece. Canadian players contributed their souvenir shirts from the tournament, also to be auctioned off on the online site.Fundraisers at home have raised $60,000 to enable the Corner family to improve the wheelchair accessibility of their home and purchase a special vehicle.A benefit will be held Thursday, Nov. 30, at the Michelangelo Banquet Centre, in Hamilton, Ontario (is now a sold-out event).
