Because of a clearly defined mandate to provide leadership for Canada’s independent adjusters through advocacy, education and recognized professional standards, the Canadian Independent Adjusters’ Association (CIAA) has two programs leading to the granting of a professional designation, the Chartered Loss Adjuster (CLA) and the Fellow of the Canadian Independent Adjusters’ Association (FCIAA).

The FCIAA designation is a prestigious recognition of an individual’s ongoing professional development, expertise and real and recognized contribution to the insurance industry. Applications are considered based on submission of either a very detailed and topical paper often described as a thesis or by application supported with credentials, adjusting history and most importantly letters of verification from Insurers and other professionals for whom the applicant has been retained. These letters of recommendation must confirm exemplary professional ability in the field of loss adjustment as well as professional integrity and skills.

The FCIAA designation is not to be confused with the CLA designation attainable only by written examination. FCIAA and CLA are the only credentials exclusively identifying an accomplished Independent Adjuster within the insurance industry in Canada.

CIAA members are setting a higher standard of professionalism. They can be proud of their decision to belong to the only organization devoted to accomplishing the many aims of, and raising the bar for, their profession. For more information you may contact me directly at ebgough@marshadj.com
