CARSTAR Automotive Canada teamed up with “Young & The Restless” star Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki Newman) to kick-off the first annual CARSTAR “Soaps it Up for Cystic Fibrosis” National Car Wash. CARSTAR shops across Canada raised more than $30,000 for the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, with more than 4,000 cars getting “soaped up”. Aon Reed Stenhouse hosted its annual Stewart Hislop Charity Golf Tournament to honor the memory of Hislop, who passed away from cancer in 1997, and to raise funds to fight ALS, which claimed the life of Aon employee Anne Bulger in November, 2003. The tournament has supported various charities since it was started in 1997 at the impetus of Aon’s Ron Roidi, and this year raised a record $25,460 for the ALS Society of Canada. At top, Roidi presents the cheque to Anne’s parents, Hedy and Earl Bulger, and ALS Society executive director David Cameron, who says the funds will set up a research grant.

KRG Children’s Charities’ ongoing support was recognized at the unveiling of the Jean Tweed Centre expansion, which features the KRG Children’s Centre. The KRG Centre provides care and assessment services for children whose parents are receiving treatment at Jean Tweed, and hosts the “Pathway to Healthy Families” program – this involves addiction counsellors going into the community to provide support to women who are pregnant or raising small children. Pictured is KRG Insurance president Paul Martin presenting the Centre with a $10,000 donation.

Shumka Craig and Moore Adjusters Canada Ltd. was quick on the scene of floods which ravaged Edmonton, AB. The storms struck on Sunday, July 11, causing widespread damage to homes, businesses and vehicles. These early photos show just some of the damage wreaked in a few short hours. SCM’s Catastrophe Response Plan and Emergency Call Centre responded to claims resulting from the torrential rains and golf-ball sized hurricane, which flooded homes with raw sewage and turned freeways into rivers.

The insurance industry joined others for the 20th Anniversary Norman Black Foundation Golf Tournament at Glen Cedars Golf Club, welcomed by foundation president Kay-Lee Franklin of Genmark Insurance Services and Pencross Financing, daughter of Norman Black. The foundation supports many smaller charities, having donated more than $1 million since 1983. Among the charities honored this year were: Villa Columbo, Touchstone Centre, Casey House, Youth Without Shelter, and Baycrest Foundation Special Daycare Fund.
