With eDocs, CSIO aims to help brokers save time by allowing them to download policy documents directly from a carrier’s computer system to their broker management systems (BMS), and to store those documents in their BMS without manual intervention. “We no longer need to first scan documents for storing them in the client’s file,” stated Caroline Harrison, of Groupe Lepelco, a L’Unique broker, in a CSIO press release. “On top of that, we save money in mailing costs.” eDocs for personal lines has been available for certification since September 2013. Northbridge Insurance was the first carrier to obtain eDocs certification, earlier this year, for commercial lines. Other insurers who have attained certification for eDocs for commercial lines include Unica Insurance and Saskatchewan Government Insurance (SGI). L’Unique is a subsidiary of La Capitale General Insurance. One L’Unique broker partner, Ciccarello Assurances, reported that with eDocs, L’Unique “deposits electronic documents” directly into the broker’s BMS in batches. The broker was quoted in a CSIO press release Tuesday as saying those documents are automatically filed into its clients’ files and are in PDF format. Toronto-based CSIO oversees development, implementation and maintenance of industry standards in Extensible Markup Language (XML), electronic data interchange (EDI) and forms. CSIO certification is free to vendors and carriers paying CSIO membership fees. In order to be certified, members need to submit a completed application package that includes a self-assessment, including supporting documentation. CSIO then reviews those applications. Those who are successful receive a certification letter. CSIO also adds the names of those certified to its list of certified products and post that information to its Certified Solutions page.
