The Globe and Mail has named CNA Canada among its Top 20 small/medium-sized companies to work for in Canada. In partnership with the Queen’s School of Business and Hewitt Associates, a global HR outsourcing and consulting firm, the Globe did a survey last summer of 79 organizations from across the country. CNA Canada and its 120 employees ranked 18th on the Globe’s list of the Top 20 small/medium-sized companies to work for.In particular, the Globe gave the property casualty and marine insurance company a fourth-place finish in the category of “pay and people practices.” According to the Globe’s study, CNA Canada “fully reimburses employees who go back to school” and has “partnered with DePaul University in Chicago to bring leadership programs to the organization.”The Globe noted CNA Canada conducts an annual survey to ensure wages are competitive, and “its pension and profit-sharing plans can add up to 16.5% of salary and bonus to an employee’s total annual compensation. Plus, recognition programs provide monetary rewards for outstanding achievements.”Companies registered to participate in the survey and detailed questionnaires were sent to the companies’ employees. The Globe’s said its analysis took factors into consideration such as “information about the organization’s leaders, how closely the goals of those leaders and the company’s workers are aligned, and whether workplace practices and programs reinforce the employer’s vision.”Number 1 on the list is Halifax-based SportsDirect, a company involved in on-line sports statistics and gambling odds.
