The purpose of this initiative is to enable IBAC Member Association brokers and other members of the insurance industry to make tax-deductible donations, through a Canadian Registered charity, that will directly aid the victims and survivors. In addition to the Canadian Insurance Brokers’ Appeal initiative, IBAC will be making a $5,000 U.S. contribution this month, on behalf of all 11 of its provincial/regional Member Associations, to the America’s Survivor Relief Fund. This fund was established on September 11 by the Independent Insurance Agents of America (IIAA), IBAC’s sister American association, in conjunction with its Independent Insurance Agents of New York (IIANY) state association. Several of IBAC’s member associations have resolved to make contributions of their own accord, such that the IBAC community’s aggregate contribution to the America’s Survivor Relief Fund is expected to be in the range of $15,000 U.S. “IBAC and its Member Associations wanted to do everything they could to assist our American brethren who were victimized by the horrific terrorist attacks, and facilitating a special opportunity for brokers and others in the industry to make a tax-deductible donation is part of that effort. These attacks were in America, but on the free world,” said IBAC executive director Brendan Wycks. At The Salvation Army’s request, donations to the Canadian Insurance Brokers’ Appeal for the Salvation Army’s U.S. Disaster Fund are to be channelled through IBAC, which will then remit the contributions received to The Salvation Army. Janine Cavin, IBAC’s Manager, Communications Services (jcavin@ibac.ca), is the contact person for this purpose. The deadline for contributions is November 11, 2001, Remembrance Day and the two-month anniversary of the terrorist attacks.
