The Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC) has taken up arms against a coalition of personal injury lawyers in Newfoundland and Labrador, accusing the group of spreading "misinformation" to the public as the lobby battle wages on for reform to the province’s insurance regulations. With insurance legislation up for review in Newfoundland/Labrador, the IBC says the group of personal injury lawyers in question have been waging a "forceful argument" that the new system will be based on "no-fault". Specifically, the IBC refers to a speech given this past week which stated that, "[the proposed changes are] one small step toward no-fault". The IBC’s vice president of the Atlantic region, Don Forgeron, places emphasis on the fact that the proposed legislative changes to Newfoundland/Labrador’s insurance system will not be based on no-fault. "It is high time coalition chairman Kevin Breen takes responsibility for promoting this misconception [of no-fault]. Mr. Breen and the personal injury lawyers he represents should put as much effort into correcting the misinformation as they have creating it.”
