The Professional Liability Underwriting Society (PLUS) recently held their international conference in Palm Springs, California, with over 2000 registrants in attendance. Founded in the U.S. in 1986 and having expanded into Canada in 1997, PLUS is a forum for individuals involved in the field of professional liability. Its mission mandate is to educate the industry and public and to better assist members to serve their professional liability customers. The organization has grown from just 300 members in 1989 to 3,000 members today, representing 800 companies active in many fields of professional liability. The chair of the Canadian chapter of PLUS is Matt Spensieri of Toronto-based Guy Carpenter & Co. The Canadian Steering committee includes representatives from Encon, Liberty International, Jardine Insurance Services, London Guarentee, Sedgwick Re., AXA-Boreal, Swiss Re., Lawyers’ Professional Insurance Company and Lavery, deBilly.
