Jim Ball, president of the Insurance Brokers Association of Canada, has announced that board approval was received for the Association to join the World Federation of Insurance Intermediaries (WFII).

The WFII is a non-profit federation that promotes the interests of insurance intermediaries world-wide. WFII was established on January 30, 1999 with the innaugral meeting in Washington, D.C.

“This is an exciting opportunity for IBAC and will ensure that our issues are brought to the world stage and that we will be able to ensure brokers’ interests are promoted and protected on a global basis,” says Ball. He notes that Canada’s written premium volume ranks 6th in the world and it is important that Canada’s independent brokers be able to compete on a level playing field globally. He is confident WFII membership will help achieve this objective.

IBAC’s membership in WFII is sponsored by Chubb Insurance Company of Canada. Comments Jan Tomlinson, president of Chubb Insurance, “As a global insurer with independent broker relationships all over the world, our support [of IBAC’s entry into WFII] is a natural extension of our commitment to our distribution forces.”
