Mike Donoghue, formerly vice president of claims in the U.S., returns to Canada to become the new CEO. Royal and SunAlliance Canada president and CEO Bob Gunn will assume the role of Group COO for Royal & Sun’s worldwide operations, exiting Canada after more than 10 years as CEO. Succeeding Gunn is Larry Simmons, formerly COO of the Canadian company. Nicholas LePan is the new head of the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions (OSFI), following the end of John Palmer’s seven-year term as superintendent. LePan has been deputy superintendent since May, 2000. Palmer will return to the private sector, OSFI reports. Fasken Martineau DuMoulin LLP announces H. Garfield Emerson has joined the firm as national chairman and leader of its mergers and acquisitions group. Emerson was formerly president and CEO of NM Rothschild & Sons Canada. Broker consolidator Hi-Alta announces the retirement of Western Insurance Network president Linda Lively. Senior vice president for Saskatchewan, Tom Dutton will become the new president and COO for the network. Munters Service Division names Eric Flikstrom project engineer for its new “Solutions” air treatment program. After 33 years, General Re chairman and CEO Ron Ferguson is retiring, although he will remain as chair until June, 2002. Executive vice president Joseph P. Brandon becomes CEO, and will replace Ferguson as chair next year. Other promotions include Franklin (Tad) Montross as president and chief underwriting officer, Dr. Peter Lutke-Bornefeld as vice chairman, Hans-Peter Gerhardt as vice chairman of Cologne Re, and J. Daniel Hickey as president of North American treaty reinsurance. Zurich Financial Services Group’s Canadian operations have a new name, Zurich North America Canada. Hartford Insurance Company of Canada is renamed Langdon Insurance Company by new owners The Economical. Langdon will handle specialty commercial, niche market and cross-border lines for Economical.
