Laura Wiebe is retiring as CEO of Saskatchewan Mutual Insurance Company. Her successor, senior vice president of operations Shelley Willick, takes the helm of SMI as CEO on July 15. Wiebe has been president and CEO of SMI since 2008. SMI writes insurance in its home province as well as in Alberta and Manitoba. In addition to its Saskatoon head office, SMI also has offices in Regina, Calgary and Winnipeg. It placed sixth in Saskatchewan P&C market (behind Saskatchewan Government Insurance, Wawanesa, the Co-operators, Northbridge and Lloyd’s) when ranked by direct written premiums according to Canadian Underwriter’s soon-to-be-released 2019 statistical guide. SMI had $74.85 million in net written premiums in 2018. Willick joined SMI in 1994 after earning her Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Saskatchewan and her Chartered Professional Accountant designation. Before becoming senior vice president of operations in 2009, Willick had been SMI’s vice president of finance and administration. SMI’s coverages include property, automobile, liability, fidelity and boiler and machinery. In its annual report for 2018, SMI said it is working towards providing brokers with on-line access to policy information, broker reports, and straight-through processing. “We are also enhancing our website to provide more information for brokers and consumers.
