Markel Insurance Co. of Canada CEO and president Mark Ram has been named one of Canada's "Top 40 Under 40" by The Globe and Mail. Ram is the first p&c industry person to achieve this honor, and since 1995 has pulled Markel from near insolvency to become the top trucking insurer in Canada.|The Canadian Insurance Congress kicked off with its annual golf tournament, this year at Olympic View, just outside Victoria, BC. Organizers Jim Willis and Don Smith (from left, at microphone) announce the winners from the podium, with the real winner being charity. The Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC) and Institute for Catastrophic Loss Reduction (ICLR) are doing their part to build safer communities. The IBC recently launched a program to honor “disaster-prepared” communities, while the ICLR unveiled the country’s first “disaster-resistant” home, both as part of National Emergency Preparedness Week.
