Along with East Coast traditions, including the “screech in” ceremony, the event included a seminar on privacy legislation and a trade show. Honorary lifetime memberships were awarded to past presidents Marcel Lacoste and Ian Pepper, and FCIAA designations were handed out to Gary Ellis, James Overend, Gary Zaran and Alan Tole. And the annual “passing of the gavel” was unique, with outgoing president Arnold Pike donning a headdress to present a seal skin cap to new president Jim Eso. *********************************** A special industry group known as “The Old Cantonese Society” met recently in Toronto to celebrate its 40th anniversary. The society was formed in November, 1963 when members of the Union Insurance Society of Canton Ltd. met for a black tie dinner in Toronto. Each year since, an annual night of fellowship has been held. *********************************** The CIP Society hosted its annual “Autumn Soiree” at Toronto’s Rosewater Supper Club recently. The evening featured motivational speaker Alan Jervis, as well as a chance for CIP Society members to network. *********************************** A record field took to the links for Crawford Adjusters Canada’s 9th annual charity golf tournament. Held at Royal Woodbine Golf Club in Toronto, the event raised more than $9,000 for the Children’s Aid Foundation. *********************************** The Canadian branch of The Toa Reinsurance Co. of America welcomed guests to its annual “Fall Function” in Toronto recently.
