Ontario Insurance Adjusters’ Association president Brian Nauss (right) and past president Louise Rivett welcome guests to the annual OIAA Christmas Party, held at the Sheraton Centre, Toronto. The event brings together adjusters and their business partners to network, dine and dance into the holiday season. As well, a donation was made on behalf of each guest to the Arthritis Society.

SCOR Canada president and CEO Henry Klecan Jr. (pictured second from left) welcomes guests to the company’s annual Beaujolais-nouveau Wine Tasting, this year held at Toronto’s Design Exchange. Guests were able to sample a range of these new wines, launched each year just after midnight, Thursday, on the third week of November.

Employees of CARSTAR Canada, including CEO and founder Sam Mercanti (pictured, far left), present a cheque for $257,000 to the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation at CARSTAR’s annual Charity Casino in Hamilton, ON. The proceeds are from the collision repair chain’s annual sale of FrightLites throughout the month of October as well as the casino night. Since 2000, CARSTAR has raised more than $750,000 for CF research.

The Risk and Insurance Management Society (RIMS) has created a new membership category for retired risk managers who want to continue their association with the society. As well, the society has received a US$25,000 grant from the Spencer Educational Foundation to create a new workshop, “Financial Concepts for Risk Managers”, which will qualify as credit to the RIMS Fellow designation. The Women in Insurance Cancer Crusade was honored to have author Virginia Brucker (pictured, left) speak at its 5th Annual “Breakfast for Breast Cancer” at Toronto’s Sheraton Centre. Copies of Brucker’s book “Gifts from the Heart” were sold at the event, raising over $5,000 for cancer research, with sales continuing through the holiday season. Attendees were touched by Brucker’s story, including her desire to fight the terrible disease which had touched her local community and the students she teaches, that she chose to write a book of ways to make Christmas more meaningful to raise funds. Members of the Risk and Insurance Management Society’s Ontario Chapter (ORIMS) welcomed hundreds of guests to their annual Seasonal Luncheon held at Toronto’s Hudson’s Bay Co. Health and wellness were the theme, with Hal Johnson and Joanne McLeod of TV’s “Body Break” putting the audience through its paces. Members of the 2002-2003 ORIMS executive are, from left, Melissa Chrystian, Niver Rubenyan, Ed Martingano, Beverly Kissoon, Loretta Miluzzi, Karin McDonald, Carrie Green, Rupak Mazumdar, April Savchuk and Bruce Tainsh.

Boomerang Tracking says that it has reached the milestone of recovering a total of 2,000 vehicles (including heavy equipment and marinecraft). The value of these vehicles is more than $100 million. The company also notes that over 120,000 of its tracking devices have been installed in vehicles in Ontario, Quebec and B.C.
