The 2003 recipient of the CIP Society’s Fellow of Distinction Award for the GTA is Carolyn Walsh, a partner at CCV Insurance and Financial Services Inc. She has served the Insurance Institutes for over 10 years, is a past president of the former Toronto Society of Fellows, and chair of the CIP Society Charity Gala. She receives her award at January’s CIP New Fellows’ Reception.

Allianz Canada has named its 2003 National Caregiver Award recipient, Gail Budd, of Oshawa, ON. She is a single parent to two severely handicapped adopted sons. Allianz Canada CEO and president Roger Randall presented her with the award recently, along with a check for $10,000. Several other caregivers were honored with $1,000 awards as part of the program, which began in 1998.

Crawford Adjusters Canada has launched “Crawford Cares”, a community relations program combining donations and employee volunteerism. In the program’s inaugural year, the Women in Insurance Cancer Crusade has been selected as the benefiting charity. “We wanted to do more than write a check each year, so we developed a program that would let each of our employees get involved and make a difference in their local community, says CEO Glenn Gibson.

CARSTAR Automotive Canada held two exciting events recently, beginning with the grand opening of their flagship StarPlex collision repair center. The 25,000 square foot facility in Mississauga, ON will run seven days a week, with the latest advancements in autobody repair. CARSTAR also celebrated its annual Charity Cabaret & Casino Night in Hamilton, ON, in support of the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and featuring performances by Memories of Motown. The evening, along with the sale of FrightLites throughout October, raised $260,000 for CCFF.

The Ontario Insurance Adjusters Association (OIAA) welcomed almost 1,500 guests to its annual Christmas party at Toronto’s Sheraton Centre. The evening included cocktails, dinner and dancing, and helped raise funds for The Arthritis Society.

The Honorable Order of the Blue Goose Ontario Pond had a busy holiday season, beginning with a ceremony to induct 17 new “goslings” into the order. This was followed by the annual Blue Goose Billiards Tournament at Toronto’s Spacco Billiard Bar, where 32 teams did battle. Money raised goes to the Women in Insurance Cancer Crusade (WICC). The Christmas season wrapped up with a holiday dinner, with special guest comedian Derek Edwards.

The Ontario Chapter of RIMS Canada (ORIMS) rang in the holiday season with its annual luncheon at the Hudson’s Bay Arcadian Court in Toronto. More than 400 risk managers and their industry partners attended the event, which raised more than $9,500, and a sleigh-full of toys for the 37th Annual CHUM City Christmas Wish.
