Crawford Canada is opening two new offices in Quebec, as the result of the purchase of the Les Expertises firm. Expertises founder Richard Racette will become Crawford’s regional manager of operations in Quebec and will be joined by five former firm staffers: Gilles Lambert, Jean Pierre Provost, Daniel Vaudeville, Elaine Savard and Mathieu Hbert. Together they bring more than century of adjusting experience to Crawford’s Quebec operations.

The Canadian Association of Insurance Women (CAIW) celebrated “Mardi Gras” style in Montreal at its annual convention recently. Helping to kick off the festivities is new CAIW president Karen Akeson of Aviva Canada (if you can recognize her behind the red mask). Receiving this year’s Insurance Woman of the Year Award (at podium) is Louise Morel. She is a past CAIW president (2000-2001) and hails from the Montreal Chapter.

The Canadian Insurance Accoutants Association (CIAA) teed up for its annual golf tournament at Hunter’s Glen in Kleinburg, ON recently. Golfers both new and experienced hit the links to network and also helped raise funds for the Childhood Cancer Foundation of Canada. Tournament organizer is Rene St. Cyr (at microphone) of Royal Bank of Canada.

The Ontario Risk and Insurance Management Society held its annual agm dinner at the Hudson’s Bay Co. in Toronto recently. Among the evenings’ events was the passing of the gavel from past president Karin McDonald to new president Rupak Mazumdar of Technical Standards and Safety Authority. Mazumdar’s theme for the coming year will be “Standing Proud” focusing on risk mangers as the corporate conscience and expansion of risk management beyond insurance. The Accidental Benefits took the stage to sing in support of the Women in Insurance Cancer Crusade. Joining McDonald and Mazumdar on the ORIMS executive for 2003-2004 are: vice president April Savchuk, corporate secretary Karen Heap, treasurer Roman Parzei, membership director Nivar Rubenyan, legislation director Erin Magilton-Morneau, program director Carrie Green, and business liaison director Bruce Tainsh.

Swiss Reinsurance Company Canada recently teed-up their annual June golf tournament and dinner at Woodington Lake Golf Club in Tottenham, ON. Dozens of insurance and reinsurance industry guests were in attendance to enjoy the day which was organized by Swiss Re’s Rob Mittertreiner.
