Dewan is an award-winning transportation safety expert, published author, and well-respected educator with a quarter century of international experience. He has been a Senior Associate and a central member of the 30 Forensic Engineering team since 2018. During this time, he has demonstrated exceptional leadership capabilities and been instrumental in providing our clients with world-class expertise and insights in matters that arise from disputes related to transportation safety, mobility, land use, and urban intensification. Dewan graduated from the University of Tokyo with a Master of Engineering in Infrastructure Planning and Ryerson University with a Master of Applied Science in Transportation Safety. Dewan has focused on transportation engineering, planning, and traffic safety issues since 2000 and received his Professional Engineer designation in 2008 (Ontario) and 2021 (British Columbia and Nova Scotia). He has worked in the public and private sectors in both Japan and Canada for 22+ years of his career in pioneering creative ideas in transportation engineering and planning. He has investigated strategic safety and location-specific collisions from traffic engineering and safety regulations for all street users including motor vehicles, cyclists, pedestrians, off-road and commercial vehicles, trucks, and motorcycles. He has also researched safety aspects of transportation planning and street design issues including Vision Zero plans for several municipalities in Canada. Dewan has been invited as a keynote speaker for local and international conferences and regularly provides courses on safety and transportation planning issues at conferences, webinars and workshops. His creative ideas have won several awards, including “Best Planning System” at the 2015 Disrupting Mobility Summit by MIT Media Lab and 2015 “Project of the Year” by the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE). As an author, he contributed a chapter to the 2017 book, Disrupting Mobility (Springer), and recently signed a sole publication contract with Taylor and Francis for a book titled, Our Mobility DNA, expected in 2022.
