The event was a success thanks to an impressive turnout, with 64 students expressing interest to join the insurance workforce. Amended Express Entry Program On November 18th, 2016, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada amended the Express Entry program to make it easier for highly skilled immigrants and students graduating from Canadian institutions to get permanent residency. Once a candidate meets the selection criteria of one of the federal immigration programs, he is given a grade using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) and placed in a pool. The amended program now lets students accumulate more points for valid job offers and for completing university studies in Canada, amongst other things. The Ministry noted in a statement: “With these changes, more former international students will be able to transition to permanent residence using the Express Entry System.” “In light of these amendments, BrokerTeam is proud to be the first in the insurance industry to target foreign students for recruitment and introduce the countless opportunities available. We also believe this generation will bring new processes, new technologies and new ideas to our industry,” said James Hui, COO and Vice-President of BrokerTeam Insurance Solutions Inc. Mr. Hui added: “Most importantly, we aim to offer Chinese foreign students an opportunity to settle in Canada by finding their niche in the industry, so they can in turn give back to the community by assisting other new immigrants.” BrokerTeam was honoured by the attendance of Mr. Han Dong, MPP of Trinity-Spadina, who demonstrated his support for the initiative: “As the member of Parliament for Trinity-Spadina, I would like to extend my sincere congratulations on the occasion of your exclusive student job fair. I wish to commend BrokerTeam Insurance Solutions Inc. for its commitment to assist newcomers to settle down in our vibrant community. Its dedication in promoting good citizenship and entrepreneurship is a good asset to the Province of Ontario. Please accept my best wishes for a successful job fair.” According to the latest data, the number of international students in Canada has nearly doubled in the past ten years. They now account for more than 10% of all students registered in Canadian universities. BrokerTeam strongly believes that by embracing this new generation, it will bring about favourable changes to both the insurance industry and the community.
