On August 11th, torrential downpour and thunderstorms caused flooding in Quebec’s Lanaudière region, the lower Laurentians, Laval, the South Shore and other areas. The storm, which Environment Canada confirmed as a microburst early Saturday evening, left more than 25,000 homes without electricity and close to 70 mm of rain fall in its wake.
Late on the night of August 12th, a severe thunderstorm swept through southern Alberta, hitting Calgary and surrounding areas with large amounts of rain, lighting and hail wider than five centimeters. Environment Canada has reported that extensive damage, especially to vehicles, is expected to result from the storm.
