Toronto – April 23rd 2013

On Friday afternoon, Granite Claims Solutions’ Catastrophe Response Team was alerted to the severe weather situation in parts of Northern Ontario and put on standby for storm-related claims. In addition to several skilled property adjusters on the ground with significant catastrophe experience, this team includes additional resources in our 24/7 Contact Centre and a team of estimators from our Property Services division, Evaluate Canada.

Several of our clients have already requested that we attend on their behalf to inspect and quantify damage to the property of their policyholders. The cities of Bracebridge, Huntsville, and Gravenhurst appear to be the hardest hit, showing significant flood damage. The impact of this storm can be seen as far north as South River, Powassan, and North Bay.

As the flood waters subside and owners of seasonal properties and cottages get the chance to attend and inspect these locations, there is no doubt that the number of claims will increase.  Early observations show considerable damage to roads and other infrastructure. This will constitute a considerable part of the costs from this event.

Events like this can have a significant impact on property owners. In partnership with our clients and their policy holders, our team will work tirelessly to ensure a swift, effective, and professional response.
