The training, organized by Ontario Southland Railway, invited firefighters from Tillsonburg Fire and Rescue, along with Southwold, East-Zorra Tavistock, and Zorra Townships to participate. Itech, a subsidiary of STRONE, frequently participates in and is asked to provide training assistance with TransCAER® events and mock disaster scenarios across the province. Representatives from the Railway Association of Canada, CP Rail, CN Rail and Itech provided instruction to area first responders, with a one-day theory and hands-on session. Itech was asked to provide Dangerous Goods Emergency Response and Preparedness instruction, presenting the responsibilities of an emergency response contractor, while demonstrating tools and equipment used during a critical event. Instruction was aided with the CCPX 911 Safety Training Tank Car on-site, maintained by the Chemistry Industry Association of Canada (CIAC). Itech is a proud sponsor of the tank car, which travels across Canada, and is used to demonstrate rail tank car construction, loading/unloading procedures and safety features. What is TransCAER®? TransCAER® (Transportation Community Awareness and Emergency Response) is a voluntary North American outreach effort that focuses on assisting communities to prepare for and to respond to possible hazardous material transportation incidents. TransCAER® members consist of volunteer representatives from the chemical manufacturing, transportation, distribution, and emergency response industries, as well as the government. The organization was founded in 1986 by a joint effort between the Union Pacific Railroad and the DOW Chemical company. Emergency preparedness is critical to stabilize and mitigate the effects of a dangerous goods incident. As part of our continued commitment to community care and emergency response, Itech is very interested in partnering with Ontario municipalities and their first responders to ensure effective emergency preparedness plans are in place.
