Itech Environmental Services recently had the pleasure of participating in TRANSCAER flammable liquids training in Hagersville and Nanticoke, Ontario.

With area fire fighters and police in attendance, training focused on informing these emergency responders about the products being transported throughout their area. It was also designed to prepare them on how to safely respond to a transportation incident involving flammable liquids.

Morning in-class training was conducted at Haldimand County Fire Department Station 2 in Hagersville, while afternoon outdoor activities were held at Franklin Yard in Nanticoke, Ontario.

The training day was sponsored by the Railway Association of Canada, the Chemistry Industry Association of Canada, and the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers in partnership with CP, Southern Ontario Railway, Shell and NOVA Chemicals.

Itech conducted ER trailer and equipment tours at Franklin Yard, presenting the responsibilities of an emergency response contractor, while demonstrating tools and equipment used during a critical event.

Fire Departments attended from Haldimand County (Hagersville, Nanticoke, Jarvis), Brantford, and Six Nations. Representatives from Transport Canada, Ministry of Transport Ontario, Brantford Police, Northern Nitrogen, Suncor, and Southern Ontario Railway were also in attendance.

Thank you to Southern Ontario Railway for hosting, along with support throughout the day from Shell, Imperial Oil, NOVA Chemicals, DrainAll, RAC, and CP.

What is TRANSCAER? TRANSCAER® (Transportation Community Awareness and Emergency Response) is a voluntary North American outreach effort that focuses on assisting communities to prepare for and to respond to possible hazardous material transportation incidents. TRANSCAER members consist of volunteer representatives from the chemical manufacturing, transportation, distribution, and emergency response industries, as well as the government. The organization was founded in 1986 by a joint effort between the Union Pacific Railroad and the DOW Chemical company.
