(Toronto, Ontario) – Today, the Insurance Brokers Association of Ontario was named the recipient of the Ontario Ministry of Transportation’s 2012 Road Safety Achievement Award in the category of corporate sponsorships. IBAO was selected for their ongoing commitment in educating Ontario drivers on the dangers of impaired driving.

“We are honoured to be receiving this award,” said IBAO CEO Randy Carroll. “We are involved in a variety of initiatives when it comes to promoting road safety, most notably with our long term commitment to the Ontario Students Against Impaired Driving (OSAID). We work closely with OSAID in educating youth on safe driving while offering advice on alternative transportation options and ways to avoid preventable tragic accidents. Brokers are committed to keeping all Ontario drivers informed and we will continue to promote safe and sober driving for all citizens.”

The Road Safety Achievement Awards were established over fifteen years ago by the Ministry of Transportation to recognize the outstanding contributions of individuals, groups and organizations who work to improve the safety of Ontario’s roads.

These awards recognize excellence in the following categories: Road Safety Achievement – Professional; Road Safety Achievement – Volunteer; Media Excellence in Road Safety; Corporate Leadership in Road Safety; Road Safety Partnerships and Road Safety Initiative of the Year.

An independent judging panel of individuals from government, public health and injury prevention disciplines reviewed all nominations over the last few weeks before selecting this year’s winners.

IBAO’s President, Debbie Thompson will be on hand to accept the award at the awards ceremony and dinner on the evening of Tuesday, June 18th, at the Estates of Sunnybrook in Toronto.

The Insurance Brokers Association of Ontario (IBAO) is a ‘not for profit’ association that represents and serves the interests of over 12,000 independent Property & Casualty Insurance Brokers in the Province of Ontario.
