The majority of brokers that have sold their business, or are contemplating the prospect of doing so, have reacted for one or more of the following reasons:

Rate of attrition and threats from dwindling volumes;

Desire to be a part of a bigger company that can provide markets, capital, and assistance with direction;

Want to retire but have no succession plan in place;

Have a partner that wishes to exit but current partners cannot or do not want to take on the new debt;

The brokerage is too large for anyone internally to buy it;

Markets are pressuring for growth but brokerage currently cannot fund or invest in meeting requirements.
