A targeted stakeholder consultation is underway to gather evidence-based information to inform potential technical changes to regulations governing the private insurance system, Alberta Treasury Board and Finance said in a media release. The Automobile Accident Insurance Benefits Regulations, Automobile Insurance Premiums Regulation, Minor Injury Regulation and Diagnostic and Treatment Protocols Regulation will all be reviewed as part of the consultation. “The government is committed to ensuring Alberta’s private automobile insurance system remains fair, affordable and accessible,” the department said in the release. “Any regulatory changes will be evidence-based and made in the best interest of Albertans.” Discussion papers have been sent out to affected stakeholders. The government will be collecting feedback until Aug. 31, 2016 and will follow-up with meetings. Potential changes to any of the regulations could be brought forward in summer 2017. Interested Albertans may contact the department to obtain copies of the auto insurance regulation consultation papers by phone (780-415-4584) or by mail at Alberta Treasury Board and Finance Financial Sector Regulation and Policy (FSRP), Room 402, Terrace Building, 9515 – 107 Street, Edmonton, Alberta, T5K 2C3.
