Specialist Lloyd’s insurer Beazley has appointed Jo-Anne Hawthorne as territory manager for eastern Canada.

Reporting to Cheryl Hobbs, Hawthorne will be responsible for developing closer relations with brokers in Ontario, Atlantic Canada, Ottawa and Quebec, with a view to building Beazley’s book of business across its specialist product lines in these provinces.

“We have ambitious plans to grow Beazley’s presence in Canada through existing brokers and through new intermediary relationships and across our existing product range, as well as new products we will bring to the market,” Hobbs said. “Jo-Anne’s experience and knowledge of the market and her extensive network will play an important role in helping us achieve these plans.”

Hawthorne has extensive experience in underwriting specialist insurance products in the Canadian market, including professional liability, errors and omissions and corporate risks.

In February 2017, Beazley acquired Creechurch Underwriting, a specialist managing general agent (MGA) since renamed Beazley Canada. Providing tailored insurance programs to small and medium-sized enterprises, the Beazley team has expanded to offer more expertise in new target areas that include cyber risk and data breach, environmental liability, and technology and media.

Beazley plc is the parent company of specialist insurance businesses with operations in Europe, the United States, Canada, Latin America, Asia and Australia. Its lines include professional indemnity, property, marine, reinsurance, accident and life, and political risks and contingency business.
