Wawanesa CEO Jeff Goy made the announcement Thursday. Before her appointment, Jardine was senior vice president and chief strategy officer, a position she assumed when joining the company in 2016. Carol Jardine has been appointed president of Wawanesa’s Canadian P&C operation. In addition to her leadership role at Wawanesa in strategy development, Jardine played a key role in the acquisition of Western Financial Group and Western Life Assurance in 2017, the mutual insurer said in a press release. Prior to joining Wawanesa, she held executive roles at Canadian Northern Shield, TD Insurance, CUMIS Group and RSA Insurance Group. She was also named a fellow of distinction by the Fellows of the Insurance Institute of Ontario in 2011. Jardine currently serves as director of the Institute of Catastrophic Loss Reduction, with a focus on climate change risk mitigation. She was the founding vice-chair of CANATICS, an industry organization dedicated to fraud identification and reduction. One of Jardine’s top objectives is to strengthen Wawanesa’s relationship with the 1,700 brokerages that offer their products to consumers. “As our industry moves further into the digital age, I look forward to creating innovative partnerships with our brokers for mutual success,” she said in the press release. Jardine is now in charge of Wawanesa’s Canadian P&C operation, one of the insurer’s four business units. The three others are: Wawanesa’s U.S. operation (Wawanesa General offers P&C insurance in California and Oregon) Wawanesa Life (provides life insurance products and services throughout Canada), and the unit related to Wawanesa’s acquisition of Western Financial Group (which distributes personal and business insurance across Western Canada).
