Dave Smiley appointed president and chief operating officer of Unica Insurance

Mississauga, Ont.-based Unica Insurance announced on Wednesday that Dave Smiley has been appointed president and chief operating officer of the company.

Dave Smiley has been appointed president and chief operating officer of Unica Insurance.

Smiley previously held the position of vice president of operations for Unica since 2009. He brings with him almost 30 years of extensive insurance experience spanning underwriting (personal and commercial lines), business development and marketing and includes senior management positions in Ontario and Alberta.

Smiley (pictured right) succeeds Martin Delage, who has been promoted to executive vice president, Individual Life & Health Insurance & Financial Services at La Capitale.

Smiley is a graduate of Acadia University with a Bachelor of Science degree and is a Fellow Chartered Insurance Professional (FCIP).

Constance Lemieux, president and chief operating officer for La Capitale General Insurance, said that Smiley “has been instrumental in shaping Unica’s culture and strategy. Dave is a strong advocate and supporter of the broker channel and he has the vision and drive to lead Unica into the future.
