Applied Systems has appointed Steve Whitelaw as vice president of industry and partner relations for the Canadian marketplace.

With more than 20 years of technology leadership and industry relations experience, Whitelaw was previously vice president of IT planning, execution and operational effectiveness at Travelers Canada.

“The industry is undergoing digital transformation, and it is critical that all constituents of the industry are working together to ensure the broker distribution channel is competitive and positioned for growth over the long term,” Whitelaw said in a statement Apr. 2. “I’m very pleased to be joining Applied and look forward to supporting the development and execution of the company’s Canadian marketplace strategy going forward.”

For the past seven years, Whitelaw also served as the Centre for Study of Insurance Operations’ (CSIO) board chairman. During his tenure, CSIO accomplished industry-wide adoption of eDocs for personal and commercial lines, developed a certification program and launched its My Proof of Insurance eDelivery solution.

CSIO announced Apr. 2 that Sean Christie, chief information officer and vice president of information services at Gore Mutual Insurance Company, has been elected as the new chairman. He has also been a director of CSIO for more than five years.

Over his career at Travelers Canada, Whitelaw has served several executive roles focused on strategic planning and execution, personal lines and business solutions. In addition to served as chairman of the board of directors of CSIO, Whitelaw also actively participated on many industry association boards and committees, including Health Claims for Automobile Insurance Processing.
