Two brokerages have joined Intact Financial Corp.’s BrokerLink unit effective Jan. 1, BrokerLink announced Monday.

The new BrokerLink brokerages are Edmonton-based Challenge Insurance Group Inc. and Toronto Insurance and Financial Group (TIFG) Inc., situated on Valleybrook Drive near the neighbourhood of Don Mills.

Before the acquisition, TIFG said it was an “insurance producer” for Jones Deslauriers Insurance Management Inc.

The Brokerlink companies include Canada BrokerLink Inc., Canada BrokerLink (Ontario) Inc. and Macdonald Chisholm Incorporated.

Halifax-based Macdonald Chisholm Trask joined BrokerLink in 2014, giving BrokerLink more than a dozen offices in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Newfoundland and Labrador.

TIFG places private passenger auto, home, commercial auto, commercial property, life and travel. Challenge places auto, home, travel, life and commercial, targetting dozens of vertical markets including oil and gas, retailers, contractors and manufacturers.

Brokerlink did not disclose the terms of the TIFG and Challenge transactions.

Brokerlink announced this past August it acquired Fort Erie, Ont.-based Speaker & Piuni Limited.

A month earlier, Brokerlink expanded into seven locations with the acquisition of three different brokerages: Adriatic Insurance Brokers Ltd., Magermans & Raes Insurance Brokers Ltd., and Insurance Protection Group Inc. With those three acquisitions, Brokerlink expanded to Sarnia, Chatham, Petrolia, Woodbridge, Cobourg, Norwood and Peterborough.

Brokerlink said Tuesday it has more than 135 offices with more than 1,800 employees in Ontario, Alberta and Atlantic Canada.
