A Montreal-based commercial brokerage will soon join Aon Canada’s public sector practice.

Aon reported Tuesday that Lemieux, Ryan and Associates will join the practice in Montreal as of Jan. 1, 2019. Lemieux, Ryan and Associates is a licensed general insurance brokerage specializing in servicing corporate, industrial, institutional and health science accounts based in Quebec. It covers the following industries, among others: plastic and petrochemical, food, steel fabrication and erection, pharmaceutical laboratory, computer science and software, travel, property management, warehousing and transportation.

The small boutique’s public sector expertise was of particular interest to the large commercial brokerage, Aon spokesperson Alexandre Daudelin told Canadian Underwriter Friday.

Paul Lemieux has accepted the role of senior vice president and account executive for eastern Canada. He will be responsible for contributing to the strategic direction of the Aon’s public sector practice in Quebec and the eastern region. All other staff members at the boutique will be brought over.

Lemieux has owned and operated the Quebec brokerage for 28 years, said David Edgar, senior vice president and national public sector leader for Aon in Canada. “His team is highly regarded for its expertise in this segment, and we’re looking forward to working with them towards further success in the future.”

There are currently no other plans to merge or acquire other brokerages in Quebec, “but we’re always open to opportunities,” Daudelin said.
