Pictured at top right, Gordon Crutcher of Sutton Reinsurance accepts the Award of Merit at the annual Convocation and Awards Dinner of the Insurance Institute of Ontario (IIO). An FCIP graduate and past president of the IIC (Canada), Crutcher was proud to call the institutes the premier educational body. Also receiving multiple awards, at bottom right is Martin Gyoroky of Global Aerospace, who won both the Top FCIP graduate in Ontario and in the GTA. Presenting awards in both cases are Janice Tomlinson, of Chubb Insurance Co. of Canada, chair of the IIC, and Ross Totten, of Totten Group Insurance, president of the IIO.

The Toronto Insurance Women’s Association (TIWA) held its annual Public Speaking Contest at the February dinner meeting. Chairman Kelly Brisban-Harris (left) presents the trophy to winner Bonita Kearns, who will represent TIWA at the National Competition held at the CAIW Convention in Montreal in May.

Industry veteran Jacob Brouwer of Brouwer Claims Canada & Co. Ltd. was the recipient of The Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal, presented by Queen Elizabeth II during her most recent 50th anniversary visit to Canada. The award recognizes persons who “have made a significant contribution to Canada, to their community or to their fellow Canadians”.

The Alberta Chapter of the Women in Insurance Cancer Crusade (WICC) presents a cheque for $126,000 to the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS), raised during the chapter’s first three years of operation. WICC Alberta recently received a Distinguished Service Award from the CCS Alberta Chapter to recognize its efforts in the fight against cancer.

Applied Systems Canada, Inc. is marking its 15th anniversary with a year-long slate of celebrations across Canada. Hundreds of industry professionals gathered in Toronto for the annual Toronto Insurance Women’s Association (TIWA) Wine and Cheese gala at the Metro Convention Centre. Guests were treated to food, drink and countless door prizes, as well as the chance to network at one of the industry’s most well-attended events.
