Content that works is content that is helpful and specific to insurance,”Somji said in an interview. For example, many customers have questions about basic insurance terminology. “Not everyone understands what comprehensive coverage is or what third-party liability really means. For the brokers that answer those questions in social media content, before the customers ask them in person – those are the ones that are establishing themselves as thought leaders,” said Somji. Economical announced Wednesday the results of its second annual Pulse Check survey. Nearly 300 property and casualty insurance brokerages were asked about their social media use. Respondents were also asked to identify themselves as being either “ahead of the curve” or “behind the times.” About one third said they were behind the times. “The people that are ahead of the curve are doing more with social media than those that are behind the times,” said Somji. “The ones that are behind the times – half of them are posting less than once a week. Of the the ones that are ahead of the curve, half of them are posting more than four times a week. Most of the rest are posting between one and three times a week.” Of those who said they are ahead of the curve, more than half said they have an active Instagram account. Respondents to Pulse Check were asked what business objectives drive their social media use. More than two thirds (78%) said build brand awareness; 74% said generate new leads and sales; 65% said engage with existing customers; and 54% said share industry expertise.Among the key social media platforms are LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. During recent wildfires, a lot of evacuation notices got sent over Twitter, said Somji. With Twitter, “brokers can provide information to the customers who need it,” said Somji. “Being able to participate in those real time conversations where people are going to the platform to look for news – that’s what it’s best at right now.” Greg Meckbach Save Stroke 1 Print Group 8 Share LI logo
